Handicraft in Umbria
Handicraft in Umbria The manufacturing of daily objects has always gone alongside with high quality creations which have long contributed to enhancing their artistic value as is demonstrated today by pottery and textiles. Already in the Middle Ages, the Arts and Corporations Guilds which protected the high quality of work in shops proved the economic and cultural importance of handicraft. This heritage which is suffering from the consequences of the growing industrialization has been jealously preserved over the centuries. However it is today gaining more and more importance thanks to the study and resumption of the old techniques and the traditional iconography, in order to safeguard an outstanding technical and creative background and at the same time be the specimen for new development strategies.
